Students at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, as well as at Warren County Public Schools middle and high schools, host annual dance marathons. Dancin’ Divas is an annual event held by local dance troupes in Paducah, Kentucky, to support pediatric neuroscience research and treatment. The event has raised $86,524 for Norton Children’s Hospital since it began seven years ago.
The Dancin’ Divas annual fundraiser began after former dance troupe member Desiree Fisher’s daughter, Jade Cain, was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder in 2012 at age 11. Following surgery, Jade received an experimental treatment at Norton Children’s Hospital to help eliminate radiation necrosis, which causes brain tissue around the targeted lesion to be injured and die, leading to severe headaches, vomiting, cognitive issues and neural dysfunction. Thanks to Jade’s outstanding outcome, Norton Children’s Neuroscience Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, launched a clinical trial to aid other children facing the same diagnosis.
Cada año, los Bowling Green Hot Rods, una filial de ligas menores del equipo de béisbol Tampa Bay Rays, organizan diversas iniciativas de recaudación de fondos en apoyo del Norton Children’s Heart Institute. The partnership began when then-manager Reinaldo Ruiz’s daughter was born in 2015 with a congenital heart condition called tetralogy of Fallot. La hija de Ruiz se sometió a un tratamiento, que incluyó cirugía, en el Norton Children’s Hospital.
