Sawyer’s Warriors began in 2017 after Lauren and Craig Edwards lost their daughter, Sawyer, in utero at 28 weeks due to a blood clot.  This was after they had previously face a miscarriage just one year prior.  Following those terrible losses, they were finally able to become pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Finley, almost a year to the day of Sawyer’s death. The Edwards family embraced their sweet rainbow baby, and their life as parents, while always remembering their two lost children.  From their experience and loss came the desire to help others who may be going through the same heartbreak that they endured.  Then, again, in March 2019, Finley was joined by a new baby brother, Barrett!

Sawyer’s Warriors raises funds to serve those in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Norton Children’s Hospital.  More than 1,400 critically ill and premature infants from throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana come to the Norton Children’s Hospital (NICU) each year.  These babies need the highest level of care, which includes everything from the highest technology available for ventilation, neonatal heart surgery, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation and even just oxygen and supportive care.  With a proven team of accomplished neonatal specialists, our two Norton Children’s neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine, are dedicated to caring for babies born prematurely or in need of advanced care or surgery.
